Understanding drilling and well control hydraulics is vital to ensure safety of drilling operations. Hydraulics modelling software, and dynamic simulations in particular, have several uses:

HPHT/MPD fundamentals and well control training

Dynamic simulations provide unique insight into well hydraulics during drilling operations and well control scenarios.

Simulators are an invaluable tool to improve understanding of advanced MPD operations, well control and HPHT challenges in general.

Pre-op preparation of MPD crew

Dynamic simulators with MPD capabilities are used for enhanced simulation-based training of crew involved in MPD operations, such as MPD system familiarisation and drill-well-on-simulator (DWOS) exercises.

Operational training of MPD crew

Using advanced, realistic dynamic simulators, one can replace in-casing operational training of MPD crew by simulator- (SiL) training with the actual MPD control system in the loop.

This enables crew training of operational procedures like connections and tripping off of critical rig tome and without risk.

With a multiphase simulator, the crew can also practise critical well control scenarios that are not possible on a real well.
